All native plants play a special role in the web of life on which all other species depend. With generous support from friends like you, we have conserved native plants for more than a century. Today, the need is extreme, as our region's native plants face a barrage of human-caused threats, with land development, climate change, and invasive plants topping the list.
Your donations help fund our work to study and stabilize the 389 globally and regionally rare plant species in New England, and to sustain the common plants that provide habitat for pollinators and other wildlife. This work—saving imperiled plants, researching climate impacts on plants, and establishing new habitat for declining pollinators—is urgent and fundamental. We are a trusted source of knowledge for scientific peers and the wider public, and we have created networks that everyone can use to conserve and grow native plants.
Your contributions also support our horticulture and public education programs, which bring our conservation message to a wider audience and remain unequaled in the region. Through our respected programs, our growing selection of regional native species, and our extensive propagation research, we raise awareness of the beauty and ecological importance of New England's native plants. In everything we do, we rely on your support at this pivotal time. Thank you!

Honor Your Loved One with a Named Tree or Bench
Has someone inspired you with a love of nature?
Visitors strolling through Garden in the Woods for years to come will appreciate the views from the bench or the lovely shape of the magnificent tree you have provided as a tribute to an important person in your life. Choose from two kinds of benches, below. Before installing the bench, the director of horticulture will discuss location options and the wording on the tribute plaque with you.
Options for tree species to dedicate will depend on the horticulture plan at the time of your tribute gift. They could include American beech, yellow birch, eastern larch, red bud, tulip tree, or umbrella magnolia. Prior to planting, the director of the botanic garden will confirm an appropriate location for the species you've chosen and the wording for the tribute plaque.
Tree donation: $3,000
Wooden bench (expected life span, 10 years) donation: $6,000
Before making any tribute donations, please contact the Philanthropy department to discuss the options for naming trees and benches: 774-519-5571 orgifts@NativePlantTrust.org. Occasionally, trail redesign necessitates moving a bench to a different location from the place where it was initially installed.
