Nasami Farm, Whately, MA
Our native plant nursery in western Massachusetts is seeking volunteers to help with all phases of plant propagation. Contact Kate Pawling at 413-397-9922 or email kpawling@newenglandwild.org.
Garden in the Woods, Framingham, MA
The Horticulture Department at Garden in the Woods is looking for volunteers to help in the gardens for the growing season. Responsibilities include and are not limited to weeding, staking, mulching, raking, edging trails, and planting. Volunteers will practice ecological gardening and manage the collection organically alongside a knowledgeable crew. Volunteers must be willing to work on a regular basis, ideally one 3-hour morning shift per week. Some physical requirements include strong back and good knees and a positive attitude is a must. Contact Kristin DeSouza, Senior Horticulturist, at 508-877-7630, ext. 3404, or email Kristin at kdesouza@newenglandwild.org.
Dan Jaffe, Propagator and Stock Beds Grower, is looking for volunteers to help in the stock beds area . The stock beds will be used to grow many of the woodland wildflowers which prefer to grow in-ground under the shade of trees. Such species as Trillium, Cypripedium, Hexastylis and others will be the major focuses. The position will entail a large amount of weeding with other duties including, but not limited to, transplanting, potting, divisions and some other propagation duties. We are also in need of some carpentry-minded individuals who would be willing to build new stock beds and help with the creation of a “propagation area.” The position will entail physically demanding work at times and thus strong backs and knees are highly recommended. Training will be in the early spring. Anyone interested should contact Dan directly via email at djaffe@newenglandwild.org.
