Woodland Garden in the City
This brand new garden is tucked away under the canopy of a huge silver maple and other large trees. Landscape architect Karen Sebastian designed the small urban oasis to resemble a woodland garden, with understory layers of native and edible plants. The garden’s main features and plantings were installed in Fall 2007, and additional planting was finished this past spring between the large Victorian home and its carriage house, all now converted to condos. A round Goshen stone terrace and large stepping stones provide access to the rectangular, less than 1,000 square foot garden. This project represents a functional collaboration between designer and client, with design work and woody plant installation done professionally, while many herbaceous plants were chosen and installed by the client under the designer’s guidance.
