The Greater Boston area is home to over 150 species of edible wild plants, many of which are more nutritious and flavorful than their cultivated counterparts. Over two dozen edible wild plant species (and, pending favorable weather conditions, edible mushrooms) will be encountered over the course of a three-mile hike in Weston. Keys to the identification of each species will be provided, as well as information on edible portion(s), season(s) of availability, nutritional value and preparation methods, as well as guidelines for safe and environmentally responsible foraging. Following the hike, the group will convene at a nearby home to sample a number of preparations made from these species and others. Bring a notebook and pencil.
