POLLINATOR CONSERVATION: NATIVE PLANTS AND NATIVE BEES

with Tristram Seidler, Ph.D., Ecologist, New England Wild Flower Society

Course Code: LEC4005

North America is home to more than 4000 species of native bees, encompassing a myriad of fascinating lifestyles. But one thing all native bees have in common is their exclusive diet of nectar and pollen, making them the premier pollinators of native plants. Native bee populations have suffered in many parts of the country, due mainly to pressure from development, yet interest in native bees as alternative pollinators of crops has increased with the advent of colony collapse disorder in honey bees. Join ecologist Tristram Seidler to learn about practical approaches to native bee conservation, and how to increase the density and diversity of native bees in gardens, orchards, and native plant landscapes.
