Maine North Woods: Wetland and Wildlife Ecology

Explore quiet lakes, rivers and streams in Piscataquis County, Maine by canoe or kayak. Paddle through beautiful, wild, wetland systems as we discuss their origin, evolution, and botany. In the bog areas, see leatherleaf, pitcherplants, sundews and cotton grass. Look for signs of wildlife species that utilize these systems such as moose, river otter, muskrat, wading birds and waterfowl. Some of these species we may observe directly. Participants must be at least 18 years old and able to paddle for 5 to 6 hours. Bring your own canoe or kayak and life jackets. Several kayaks are available for a rental fee. Accommodations as part of a package are available in Guilford, Maine, which is approximately 5 hours from Boston.
