For New England Wild Flower Society, a non-profit organization, and oldest plant conservation organization in the country, dedicated to the conservation of temperate North American plants, and for the New England Wild Flower Society Nurseries, the largest retail native plant nursery in New England with operations based at Nasami Farm in Whately. Massachusetts, and an additional retail outlet at the Society’s botanical garden, Garden in the Woods in Framingham, Massachusetts. The Nursery’s mission is to provide unique and quality native plants for gardeners, landscapers and restoration ecologists.

Position starting date:  March 17, 2008

Responsibilities: Full time, permanent position

  • Oversees and participates in all aspects of plant production for over 700 North American native species (100,000 units annually, and growing).
  • Responsible for:
    • producing top quality potted plants
    • providing supervision to support staff and many volunteers assisting with potting, irrigation, and general plant maintenance
    • proactively seeking innovative techniques to maximize efficiencies and shorten production cycles
    • maintaining production inventory
    • maintaining computerized production records
  • The Grower participates in the Society’s public outreach and educational programs through teaching, writing, and some plant sales. Supervisor is the Nursery Business Director.

Qualifications:                                                                                

B.S. degree in Horticulture or related field preferred.  Minimum of three years of practical experience required.  Practical experience in lieu of formal education may be acceptable.  We are seeking an outgoing, hard-working, personable individual with a strong interest in native plants and the environment who will assist in maximizing quality/efficiencies during this exciting period of growth. 

Candidate will work and interact with various groups of people (peers, members, volunteers), and must have strong organizational skills and proven ability to motivate and work collaboratively with a diverse team. Must be able to communicate effectively.

Salary: Commensurate with experience, with excellent benefit package.
